Subject: i love yarn

Comment: I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 7 and I love it. My brother calls me a yarn freak but I can't help it it is so much fun. I'm always buying yarn and looking for patterns. If I see yarn on sale I can't help myself I just buy it.

One day I want to start my own business of the different stuff I have made.

Subject: 'Modern' Crochet

Comment: I learnt to chrochet when I was young, but thought that it was just for nanas. Now I know better. I am working on a scarf combining crochet, applique and embroidery with art noveau style designs.
If you google "Marcel Wanders Crochet" you will see a crochet table, Chanel has a crochet handbag, and Marc Jacobs has beautiful crochet shoes.

Subject: Beyond obsession!

Comment: Hi all! I am 26 and I learned to crochet 3 or 4 years ago from a family friend. I was really discouraged at first because my sister picked it up quickly and I struggled. But now I'm the avid crocheter and she's not really that into it. She teases me and tells me I have a problem due to what seems like 5 billion tons of yarn all over my room and crochet patterns printed from the internet, mostly from this site, from here to eternity. It is beyond obsession, I agree, but I can't help it! It's fun and relaxing and I love making things for others and seeing how happy they are when I've made something for them. Also, I can't wait to have a daughter to teach so we can share it together! Have fun! I do.

Subject: needing to stay busy

Comment: Two years ago, my 23 year old son joined the Marines. I used a children's book to teach my left-handed self to crochet. Throughput boot camp, a deployment to Japan and this year a deployment to Iraq, I crocheted. My daughter is a college student, living in a dorm and I crocheted lap afghans for anyone who asked. I went onto to scarves and baby blankets. This year with the deployment to Iraq, I upped the ante to a mega blanket project. My daughter can now keep half the dorm warm and my nerves are steadier-all thanks to crocheting. Thanks, Annaliesa Meeks

Subject: Good way to relax

Comment: I learned to crochet when I was six (my older sister is a wonderful needlewoman and I learned from her) and have tinkered with it on and off for years. I took it up again seriously a few years ago as a way to relax after a long day at work and school.

Recently I've been working on crochet garments from sewing patterns (this allows me to vary stitches and yarns without straining my brain on conversions, and it's guaranteed to fit so long as I crochet to the exact size of the pattern pieces.)

The only bad thing about it is that, even exercising restraint, my yarn stash seems to be creeping into the living room. Does anyone else's husband have apoplexy whenever he finds a new ball of yarn? :)

Subject: Addicting!

Comment: I learned how to crochet only four months ago, and I'm hooked! Growing up, my Nana was always crocheting and knitting, and she is my teacher and my inspiration. I learned how to knit years ago, and while my Nana showed me over and over how to crochet, it never made sense to me. Well, one night I had just finished knitting a scarf, and I thought I'd try crocheting again. I looked at the directions for the millionth time, and somehow they made sense! I've been crocheting ever since. I crochet while watching TV, on the bus, during staff meetings, anywhere! This website offers many great patterns and I get a lot of inspiration from looking at all the different things people have made. Now I'm about to open my own online store where I sell my hand-designed, handmade crocheted hats. Crocheting is so much fun!

Comment: I was always excited each year at Christmas because I knew my Grandmother would give me one of her crochet works of art. She was the one who inspired me to crochet. I learned from her and some of my work friends during our breaks.I will never forget the crocheted collars that Grandmother made that were popular in the "50's.

Now as a mother and grandmother, I have 3 children, 11 grandchildren and have made all of them an afghan for their birthdays. It took me a year to do it but it was so much fun and so relaxing. Thank goodness, their birthdays are spread thoughout the year.

The enjoyment you get when you give your handiwork away can only be expressed when you see the gratefulness in their eyes. My crochet bag goes with me everywhere.

Thank you for this website. It is great! I am still exploring.

Subject: Crochet!

Comment: I have been an Australian crochet nut for two years now - ever since I was taught by a workmate when I was looking for something to help pass the time whilst on watch. This year I was talked in to entering some shows - and I am flabbergasted to have won the novice section at the Canberra Royal and a highly commended in the Sydney Royal today.
The pattern I used for the Canberra Royal was one I learnt from here and modified just slightly!
May crochet live forever!!!

Subject: avid crocheter

Comment: I see that crochet has really never lost its popularity. As a little girl I always watched my grandmother and loved all the things she made for. She is her late 80's and doesn't crochet as much as she once did. I always let her know that I appreciate that she took the time to teach me. I have a daughter who I give mini lessons to whenever she shows an interest in a project. I love to crochet and do such a variety of projects. I can't imagine what I would do with out such a creative hobby. This site is so great. I get inspired by patterns and it is so much fun to put your own twist on a pattern. Before you know it there are times when you realize you have created your own pattern.
