Subject: Barefoot Sandals

Comment: I just wanted to say thank you for the beautiful pair of sandals. I made them up for a beach wedding. I used size 10 thread and added gold metallic to it, to set them off. I used ecru and cream colored beads. They turned out so well, that I am making more. Thank you for this site.

Subject: best site ever

Comment: I teach crochet classes on the military base near my home to the young wives of the personal. Your site is the one I always tell them about. You have so many really good patterns. We are now all working on Christmas gifts and most of the patterns come from your site. Thank You.

Comment: I just started to learn crochet i'm 12 years old. My Grandma taught me about 1 month ago. When I crochet I think of my grandma who lives in Jamacia. I miss her alot so this helps me remember her.

Subject: Snowflake afghan

Comment: My nanna recently was very sick and we almost lost her. She started to get a bit better, but we were told that she was going to end up in a nursing home. As soon as I found out, I found the snowflake afghan pattern on this site, got my stash of wool and started to make it for her, so that she would have something nice in the nursing home. It took me two weeks to make and I gave it to her. She loves it to pieces. She somehow has gotten better enough for her to come home. It is a gorgeous blanket, I have been offered money to make many more of these. Thanks for letting me find a great pattern.

Subject: Crochet crazy

Comment: It's so great to read everyone's story! I too, love crochet. I learned it at around 10 but didn't like the fine thread and steel needle. I picked it up again 3 years ago, and it has taught me so much patience, especially with my children. It helped to support me on both my maternity leaves, as my husband sold my hats and scarves at his law firm. At Christmas, it is always the last minute saving grace for my family and friends, as they know I always have a large stash of finished items. I now teach crochet at a Michaels near me, and love showing people the beautiful things they can make. A crafty person at heart, I can honestly say it is the only one I have stuck with so long. I have tubs of yarn in the clost, yarn under the bed, yarn in the car, yarn at work. I crochet while walking and watching tv. I have finally found what I want to do and am working on it: a business selling yarn and patterns and teaching people how to crochet!

Subject: Grandbaby

Comment: Having crocheted now for more years than I care to remember, my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter was here for a visit. I was happily crocheting away when she asked me for some yarn and a hook so she could "Kashay" with Grammy. I taught her how to do slip stitch and we sat for awhile trying to learn this skill. To this day, the joke in our house is my "Kashaying". Hopefully I will be able to pass on my love of this fine needleart to my grandchildren.

Subject: Pass It On

Comment: My mother taught me to crochet when I was 9 and over the years I learned different stitches. I've mostly made afghans, but recently have tried making other items as well. The year before my mother passed away she gave me a trunk full of left over yarns she had. From the many colors I made an afghan for myself and every time I look at it I'm reminded of my mother. I truly treasure that blanket! Crocheting is more than a craft, it's a heritage so pass it on to the next generation.

Subject: I Love to Crochet

Comment: Hey y'all, I'm 14 years old and I have been at this for approx. 4 years. I absolutely love it! It is very relaxing, and yes a teenager is stressed out no matter what you think. Anyway, I have in the past made slippers, potholders, scarves, stuffed pigs, and a dinosaur. I am starting my own crochet business this fall selling my crocheted pigs, which turn out very well if I do say so myself! LOL Well keep up the good work and continue to be inspired everyone! God Bless!

Subject: Self-therapy

Comment: My aunt taught me how to crochet when I was probably 9 or 10 years old. For the next 10 years, I was crocheting row after row of single crochets, making scarves for anyone who crossed my path! Just a couple years ago, I finally decided to learn more stitches. Then came 2 years of double and triple crochet blankets :) Row after row after row. I am 24 now, and have very recently decided to learn the more complicated and beautiful stitches. And I am so happy I did! I turned to the internet as my teacher - mostly from this site, actually! I spent some long hours staring at the screen trying to read patterns, and eventually, it all made sense. Now I am working on a gorgeous granny square afghan for my parents, and I carry the yarn with me everywhere I go in my purse (my boyfriend refuses to call it a purse, calls it a "yarn bag!") in case I have a free moment to crochet. I love knowing that I can create things for loved ones, incorporating their favorite colors, etc., instead of being faced with finding the perfect gift at the mall. The best part of all is the therapy it provides. I have a very stressful job, and the rhythm of crocheting just turns my brain right off and I can enjoy life. It's like yoga, without all that bending and twisting :)

Subject: Lifesaving

Comment: I used to smoke 30 cigarettes a day, and had done for quarter of a century. I gave up a few months ago and it was probably the hardest thing I ever did.

During a particularly low period in the first couple of days, I got in my car and ended up at the craft shop. I have knitted and crocheted on and off for years, but not recently - it suddenly seemed a very good time to reacquaint myself with the hobby.

I stocked up on some gorgeous wool and needles and hooks of varying sizes, and haven't looked back since.

For its therapeutic qualities and the fact that it involves your mind and your hands, I can honestly say it has helped save my life by getting me over my nicotine addiction.

Subject: crocheting again

Comment: I fell and broke my ankle several months ago and was pretty much confined to my bed for several months. I was going stir crazy until my friend offered to bring me some yarn and a crochet needle. My mother had taught me to crochet as a child. I searched the internet and found some beautiful free patterns and began crocheting again after a lapse of several years. I rediscovered how much fun it was. I have made several beautiful afghans this year and plan to give them as gifts. I believe crocheting played a big part in my recovery, helping to take my mind off my broken ankle. Thanks, Cindy, for hooking me up with crochet again. Download this as a file

Subject: Crochet

Comment: I began crocheting back in 2001. My mom was in the nursing home and I wanted to make something for her to have there. So a dear friend of mine, Terry W, taught me how to crochet as she had a crochet project at the time. Of course, according to her, I picked something that a beginner shouldn't pick. It had a stitch or two that someone crocheting for awhile would know how to work. With her help I picked it up quickly and made what I wanted to give my mother. From there I have been crocheting several different pieces. Now I want you to know that I was not young when I started - 57 years old. So if you have a yearn to crochet don't think that you can't do it because of your age.

I love crocheting. Have made some baby blankets to give to some precious babies. Enjoyed giving them to their mommas.

Subject: crocheting for relief from stressors

Comment: I have been crocheting since I was 12 years old, a neighbor friend taught me how. I now crochet for relief from eveyday stressors. Since I am a full-time student, full-time mom, plus full-time teacher (I home-school my two younger children), well I have a few stressors in my life. Crocheting does play second fidle more often these days, but I find it a great comfort when the day has proven too full.
Thank you, to all who have submitted patterns to this web site.
Sincerely,
Michelle Y. Thomas
