Subject: crocheting

Comment: I was recently reintroduced to crocheting by a very kind friend at work. I only wish I had started earlier. It is fun, relaxing, and very rewarding. Several ladies at my job are now crocheting again or for the first time. Everybody is excited and so happy to share what they are making. This has been so fullfilling for me.
I am becoming addicted to the craft, but I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing.

Subject: quiet time

Comment: I listen to the audio books from the library while crocheting--very relaxing. Two years ago I got grand champion in crocheting at our county fair. I really believe listening to the books helped me relax and keep my stitch count.

Subject: Teaching my Daughters

Comment: I am 35 years old and have 3 daughters I learned how to crochet last year and began teaching my daughters, now we sit and make hats, scarves, afgans and hopefully soon sweaters. My daughters are 16/14/13 I think that everyone should teach their daughters how to do creative things with their hands it keeps them out of trouble

Subject: Boys who crochet

Comment: I submitted earlier, mentioning I was going to teach teenagers (boys) to crochet. These kids are in group homes, some are troubled, some had troubled homes. They love to crochet! They go through $50 yarn at least once a month! My boys refuse to read patterns, but create anything once seen, and love huge projects, like blankets with 2-3 strands together. It is wonderful therapy for them, and their enthusiasm is wonderful. I love bringing something to them, a new stitch, new yarn, and I love all the creativity it has sparked in me. Teach someone to crochet, it will be with them forever!

Subject: Christmas hats

Comment: I am from the UK. My mum taught me to crochet when I was a child. I have done it only occasionally until this year when I discovered your brilliant website. This Christmas with the help of my niece we picked out patterns from your directory and once I had mastered US crochet speak, I crocheted different hats for all of my family. They loved them, we had a real hoot opening presents!! Thank you.

Comment: Like all of you, I also love to crochet. It is hard to put down my needle and yarn sometimes to do some work around the house. When my son was born three months ago I had to make myself put the crocheting aside quite often. Now that I've gotten the "mommy" routine down a lot better, I've been able to crochet more often. My Grandmother taught me to crochet at age 10. I never really picked it up until about 2 years ago. Now I can never seem to put it down!

Subject: Angels

Comment: I'm 15 years old. My best friend taught me how to make granny squares when we were in the 5th grade. For about three years that was all I could make, but I made good use of them. During that time I made two afghans. Then, I started to explore the world of patterns thanks to this very website. Here's my pattern story. Every year I like to make my teachers a gift. The first gifts that I crocheted were bookmarks. That was ok, but when Christmas rolled around I wanted something related to Christ. So, I started looking for an angel ornament pattern on this site and I found the perfect one. Since finding that angel pattern I have made an immeasurable number of angels that I give as gifts. Each angel is treasured far more by me and the reciepient since I made it myself. Thanks so much to all the people who put patterns on this site.

Subject: Fun

Comment: Wow; I first learned to crochet when I was 10 years old. I put down my needles for many years for lack of time. Now I'm married and almost 26 years old. I've picked up my needles once again, using baby patterns from this website, and have made clothes for three ladies already! Thanks for the initiative-provoking website!

Subject: Crochet

Comment: Hello my name is Nakia. I first learned how to crochet in Germany by a neighbor; I was only 12. When I came back to the U.S, my auntie taught me how to do blankets. After awhile, I put crocheting on hold until January, 2002. I started working at a place called CSD (call center) and there, my co-workers and I passed around patterns and taught each other what we knew. Upon my arrival at CSD,I only knew how to do three basic stitches. Working at the call center for two years, I accumulated alot of information, tricks, and techniques. I became so good that for Christmas 2004, I crocheted afghans; it took me a whole year to finish. It was the best gift I have ever given my family ( and cheapest too ha ha ha). I love crocheting. It takes relaxation to another level. My next move is to learn how to work with fabric along with crocheting. In due time, I will become a pro like you guys. Take care and God Bless.

Subject: crochet- and knitting, too

Comment: I started crocheting not quite 26 years ago at the age of 14 (yeah, I'm almost 40) and haven't stopped since. I lvoe it and hae made beautiful afghans for friends and family. My kids-ages 10 and 4- have several from babyhood on up. I am currently stitching a bigger one for the 10 yo who outgrew his toddler afghan. Lil' sis got priority for awhile. I also took up knitting after baby girl and have been doing alot of that, too. The only one who seems stressed about the whole thing is hubby who sees the yarn bills every month. He did settle down after he got his own afghan to cuddle when I stayed up late stitiching. Love the site- keep up the good work!

Comment: My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was just 5 yrs. old. I made my first afghan by the time I turned 6 yrs. old and I am now 31 and still going strong. This year I made all of my family members including myself scarves out of fun fur and boa yarn. They all loved them. I also enjoy coming to this site and getting so many cute and wonderful ideas. Thanks alot.

Subject: CROCHET

Comment: I learned to crochet in a home economics class in middle school and then lost interest until about 15 years ago. Picked it up again and haven't stopped. I have made 50 afghans and 100 bed dolls. Just set your mind to it and get crocheting. Nothing will relax you faster.

Subject: Crochet for others

Comment: I have been crochetting for years and years ( no I will not admit for how long exactly..LOL) I started to crochet blankets for Project linus and I love it. When I sit here and work on the blankets or a hat and watch my children, who are warm and safe, I hope that my blankies give some other child a piece of warmth and comfort in times of need. I have gotten to call these blankets my little hugs .I do hope that these "hugs" make the kids feel, that someone they might not even know, cares about them. I make up my own patterns for that, so that the blanket stay as individual as the kids who receive them.
I think it is great, that with the gift I got by learning how to crochet, I can give to so many others.
