Subject: Giving back

Comment: I am 52 years old and have enjoyed the art of crochet since I was 7. I started crocheting around pillow cases and do just about everything now. I would like to encourage all crocheters like me who have received so much joy in it to give back and find a local and deserving charity in your area and make items for them. I have just started this spring to make hats and scarves for the local homeless shelter and hope to have enough of them by cold weather to benefit a lot of people. So please if you can, give back. It "FEELS SO GOOD".

Subject: Still lovin' it

Comment: I learned to crochet when I was 12 and am still crocheting! I am just getting back to crocheting after a while of not having enough time to, so far I have made an afghan and a hat! I am working on a scarf and a tote bag too. Crocheting so much fun, my Grandma is still proud of me every time I complete a granny square!

Subject: happiness

Comment: Several years ago, my mom made a blanket for a friend of hers who was adopting a little girl from Russia. My dad asked her if she could make another one, and she said no, she barely had the time to make one. So I offered to make one for him; he wanted to give it to a co-worker of his who's 2 1/2 year old daughter had just been diagnosed with leukemia. And this started a tradition. Every year, my family looks for someone we know, friend, co-worker, client, with a baby or toddler who might need some extra love over the Christmas season and present them with a "Christmas blanket" made by me. The happiness that it brings these families makes me want to do it again and again. I just thought that others out there like me would enjoy the story of the crocheted Christmas blanket.

Subject: gifts

Comment: I'm almost 21 and this past summer I made an afghan as a birthday present for my boyfriend in which I (literally) put blood, sweat and tears into. The result was him being flabbergasted by what I had done for him, his sister threatening to steal it, and his mom asking if he really deserved to have a girlfriend as good as myself. I love how gifts can make someone's day brighter! And it's nice to know that I'm not alone in my love of the yarn and hook!

Subject: so much yarn - not enough speed

Comment: I love crochet my grama taught me back when i was about 11, then i gave it up and started knitting. Now i am back to crochet because knitting is too hard on my wrists (i have arthritis in my hands). I am about to turn 30 and i just want to crochet all the time. My speed is slow but i love it so much.

Subject: team effort

Comment: i got chicken pox when i was 6, and during the couple weeks i was sick, my mother taught me how to crochet...that was almost 20 years ago. when i was first married, quit crocheting for a couple years. i was a little afraid that my new husband would see it as a completely nerdy hobby. one day he was telling me how much he wanted a red and black blanket, but couldnt find one anymore. i went and bought red and black yarn and made a queen size afghan for him and he almost fell over.
that was last year, and since then, i have made so many projects i cant even count them. my husband even goes to the store and picks colors if i'm having a moment of non creativity...i guess its not so nerdy after all :)

Subject: Artistic Knitter

Comment: I am 21, just married, fulltime student, and don't have to work right now. I just learned how to knit on christmas. I have been wanting to try so when I got the supplies for a present I started right away. I have since then taught myself how to knit, made three scarves. Learned how to crochet, almost done with the first scarf and I am in the middle of my wall mural of a combo between knit, crochet, and string art. I cant believe it has only been a month and I have learned so much! This is fabulous! Oh by the way my husband is giving me the building next door to his art gallery to display my artistic pieces and leather one of a kind purses. :)

Subject: Hooked again

Comment: Its been years since i crochet.. My grandmother taught me when i was in my early teens. I was a granny square freek. Life got in the way and crochet went by the way side.. My mother gave me copies of crochet snowflakes patterns just before the holidays and i looked at them and mentioned i havent done crochet in years.. she said youll get it back. Back I did.. It was great. I had made a few to bring into work for a ornament exchange and one of the older ladies loved them.. Since then i have moved on to scarves and did one hat that came out sooo cute. Contimplating an afghan... getting up the nerve for that project.. Ohh those granny squares.. my mom wrote me down the pattern that my grandmother used...and It was like an old friend had returned. I love this site.. My printer is having a work out latley. Cant get enough.. !!

Subject: A Fun Pastime

Comment: I learned how to crochet when I was 8 years old, just a simple single stitch. The first thing I made was a blue scarf that I still have. It is uneven and messy, but I saved it because I remember being so proud. I've made purses, pillows, wallets, and mittens since and I've only gotten better. I have no patience for afghans =). I know firsthand how hard it can be to finish something if you lack patience. But just imagine it when its finished and being able to say "I made that." And you'll have the drive to continue.

Subject: Family Tradition and a relaxing pastime

Comment: My grandmother taught me how to crochet (how to make chains) when I was eight. I didnt really care much at that point, but more than ten years later, when I found myself absoloutely bored and in need of a new hobby, I remembered my grandmother patiently teaching me how to crochet and I felt I could learn it.
It's been two years since I seriously started to crochet and it has been very good for me. I've saved money making my own winter accesories, I've found a great hobby that relaxes me and puts me in contact with many new people and best of all I always have something to talk about to my grandmother.
