Friday, April 01, 2011Name: Nicole Tolf Subject: Wine Bag Comment: I often end up with alot of wine bags from the grocery store. You know the one's that have six sections for several bottles of wine. Well I found that I can use these to carry six skeins of yarn for what ever project I may be working on. It keeps them all seperate but together at all times. Also I can carry my needles as well. Here's another quick tip, I reuse the colored plastic newspaper tube bag, as not only storage but if you're lucky, you can color code yarn with color of bag! Yarn just pulls from bag HANDILY:) Wednesday, March 30, 2011Name: JoAnn Subject: hook storage Comment: My husband bought hand-rolled cigars while in Florida a few years ago. They came in the nicest little wooden box which turned out to be perfect for storing my crochet hooks. Tuesday, March 29, 2011Name: renee Subject: threading any needle Comment: My mother taught me this trick when I was a child. I am 69 now. It works every time. Wrap your thread tightly around the smallest end of the needle, hold it tight between your fingernails, and then push the tiny loop through the needle's ear. I have threaded thick yarn, floss, sewing thread, boa yarn, fancy fur, even eyelash yarn, and all kinds of yarn this way. It works beautifully. Hope this works for you. Tuesday, March 29, 2011Name: renee Subject: uses for scrap yarn Comment: Scrunchies! Thanks to Crochet PatternCentral.com I got this idea to make scrunchies with my left over yarn. It only takes a small amount of yarn and I was amazed how I could make a cute scrunchie for a child out of less than a yard. And in no time at all! When I still had a bit of yarn left over, I made a small matching scrunchie for the end of the tail. Crochet PatternCentral.com has tons of patterns. I got so many oohs and ahhs; in two weeks I've now made about a hundred of them. Teens and younger kids love them and they make a great little gift. I found nice elastic bands and Big Lots and Dollar Tree. Saturday, March 26, 2011Name: AmiLoverEmily Subject: Stuffing with Scraps Comment: since i'm only 11, i can't just go and get more stuffing whenever i run out, so i use my yarn scraps for stuffing my projects, and it also saves my allowance Wednesday, March 23, 2011Name: Nectar Subject: yarn storage Comment: I use a shoebox to put my yarn and needles in on car trips. There are usually holes you can feed the yarn end out of (esp. converse boxes. Tuesday, March 22, 2011Name: Sue J Subject: Containers for Crochet Comment: When purchasing cosmetics - you often get a free 'make-up' bag. These come in all shapes and sizes and are great for your crochet projects. The large ones are useful for wool, yarn and patterns, smaller ones for crochet hooks and really small ones for all the bits like sewing needles, buttons, tape measures, scissors, etc. Keeps everything in order - and makes use of the cosmetic bags that come free! Sunday, March 20, 2011Name: Sue J Subject: Using scrap yarn Comment: When I have some left over yarn, I crochet 'flowers'. I keep them in a box and over time you get a nice box full. Then when you want some decoration or embellishments for a certain project - you have ready made flowers to work with. Select A Page Share your own hints by filling in the form below...
