Name: Toya L
Subject: yarn holder
Comment: I'm 13 and i have alot of yarn! So to KEEP UP with it i put my yarn in a big tote bag that i made or you can just look around your house to find one.

Name: Christine
Subject: Scrap Yarn Storage
Comment: To better organize all my scrap yarns I save the plastic tubs that I buy kitty litter in, clean them out well, and spray paint them a certain color. Once dry the label is covered up and all my yarns are organized by color, red yarns in the red tub and so on...

Subject: Storing patterns
Comment: You can buy the "extending file folder" things at Walmart. They're cheap and hold a lot. They have alphabet tabs, so finding the pattern is easy. I'm 12 but already have a huge store of patterns, both borrowed from my grandma and printed offline, and this really helps.

Subject: Storing hooks
Comment: You can get small, hard pencil boxes for like 99 cents at Walmart. Some, like what I use, are small and snap close. Othes are larger and can be used to store your other notions as well.

Name: Natalie
Subject: Useful Tools
Comment: I can't live without a darning needle, scissors, or a tape measure. I've put together little kits with one of each item held together by a keychain ring. I find these items at the dollar store. I also give them away to each person I teach to knit or crochet so they always have a handy way to measure, darn, and cut.

Name: bebe
Subject: small objects
Comment: i use the small tins that breath mints come in to keep small things in like - yarn needles, rolled measuring tape, etc. i can transfer the tin from one project to another.

Name: diane
Subject: starching
Comment: i starch all my doilies lightly with liquid porcelain. when they need washing, just rinse them off and they are as good as new. this also protects them from yellowing and they will keep their shape.
for ruffled doilies, use a blow dryer to reshape. you'll enjoy your doily longer
never use sugar and water. what a sticky mess. my cat has a sweet tooth, so i always find them on the floor with broken threads.

Name: Alexis
Subject: another yarn storage idea
Comment: A clear plastic shoe bag makes an excellent storage system for smaller skeins of yarn. Just put them in the compartments where you'd put the shoes. It makes it easy to find what you're looking for, and it looks so pretty! :)

Name: Lisbet
Subject: Keeping my place
Comment: I use a magnet strip to keep my place in patterns. The pattern sits on a music stand and I have a bag that can store the project hooked to the stand

Name: Momkat
Subject: Project Helper
Comment: I tend to either do several crochet projects at once or leave one I'm frustrated with for awhile. I put the hook in a plastic bag with the project so I never have to guess what hook I used for gauge. You can buy hooks in a multi-pack so cheaply........you can afford to leave a hook with a project and the instruction without trying to guess!

Name: LimaLlama14
Subject: Stain Remover
Comment: I'm 12 and I love to crochet at school but sometimes lunch gets on my projects. So I've found that nail polish remover and some "Surf" easily gets stains out without ruining the yarn.

Name: Carole
Subject: Crochet Hooks
Comment: A simple holder for crochet hooks is a travel toothbrush plastic holder. Since I live a couple places during the week, I can get several toothbrush holders and just take the crochet hooks that I need with me. A small make-up bag carries my scissors, darning needles, etc.

Name: micheal
Subject: rolling yarn ball
Comment: When rolling yarn balls with a small pet like a cat or dog put the skien of yarn inside your shirt or jacket instead of in sight of the pet. the cat or dog cant find the yarn and cant play with it.

Name: Princess G
Subject: Storage/bags
Comment: hello im 12 yrs old and i already have a huge collection of yarns, crochet hooks and knitting needles. if your young (like me) and you are rushing all over you house trying to find where you put that yarn you were just going to use..... invest in a scrapbooking/knitting tote. my mum bought me a scrapbooking tote and it holds everything i need! my hundreds of cool patterns (thankx to this site!) and endless amount of yarns and hooks. it really keeps me organised.... well most of the time! i hope this helped some of you knitters and crocheters out there! happy crocheting/knitting!

Name: Faye
Subject: patterns
Comment: When I print patterns I put them in a document protector, I have separate notebooks for knitting and crochet, you can use a grease pencil (china marker) to keep track of things on the protector that easily wipes off when you're done, I get standard page dividers and separate the patterns according to type, ie. toys, sweaters, hats etc...
