Name: Jen B Subject: Yarn Storage Comment: I have a couple of tubs to keep my yarn in, but I got a small, metal, mesh, office trash can to keep a few balls of yarn in. I keep it next to my chair. It looks pretty & gives me quick access when I want to make something quick or just keep working on my scrap-ghan. The tip about putting polymer clay on your hooks. GREAT! I found some that have longer bamboo handles that I love, but I've also added to some of my other hooks. So much more comfortable. Name: Carolyn Kelly Subject: Christmas Ornaments Comment: For the last 30 years I have been giving handmade ornaments to my friends and family. They look forward to receiving them. This year I am making the ice skate found on this site, and they are so cute!!! My family knows that this will all I will be able to give, but they don't care, they love the fact that I take the time to do something from my heart that matters. The yarn I am using is left overs from projects I have made for them through out the years and I know they will be fighting over who gets which color! For some reason 1/2 my family loves the color purple, and the other loves blue!!! Name: Kristen Subject: Keep Trying! Comment: I was inspired to learn to crochet by my friends who are crocheting up a storm of cold-weather accessories. I decided my first project would be a beanie. Silly me! I soon discovered that beanies are one of the more difficult projects. Well, after creating a giant dread-tam a few times, I finally ditched the pattern and tried some stuff myself, learning to bend the shape of the hat by adding stitches to a row (expanding it) or by taking away stitches to a row (pulling it in, to make it tighter and more round). I finally (FINALLY!) finished my GORGEOUS beanie tonight, and I feel like such a winner because I kept at it. It is white with a green band around it. Just keep it up, and if a pattern (not saying anything about these patterns from this site, but any pattern) isn't working out, don't be afraid to mess with it. You'll feel like a winner, and have a creative accessory to show for it! Name: April Subject: Relearning to Crochet Comment: When I was a kid, my mom tried to teach me to Crochet before my eldest nephew was born. However I was stubborn and wanted to pick out my own yarn to work with but money was tight and my mom made me use bright colors when I wanted pastels. Now almost 14 years later, my best friend's sister's pregnancy has inspired me to learn how to crochet. I've only been doing so for a little less than an hour now and am driven to continue on! I now wish I had kept with learning when I was little because who knows how good I would be now if I had... Well here's the best to everyone who is just learning to crochet! Name: shay Subject: island necklace Comment: i am 12 yrs old and i have just started high school (i live in england). i haven't seen 1 of best friends since summer, so i decided 2 make them a gift. for mi last b'day, i got a bead set that came with some instructions to make a beaded flower. i made the flower, and cut up a too small bracelet i made, and used some new beads from a new set from mi 12th b'day. i used a sandy cotton and the effect was a neclace that had a kind of island theme. i hope my friend hannah smith will like it!!!! luv shay Name: janiejane Subject: beginner Comment: I'm eleven years old, and my wonderful great aunt taught me how to crochet little squares, and i taught myself how to make scarfs and things like that. I'm only a beginner, but I found this site and love it! Name: Dixie Subject: Dream!!!! Comment: I learned how to crochet when i was 8 years old. It has been a dream since to crochet and sell. Well, I am now almost 24 years old and i made the cutest pink poncho for my 1 year old daughter...we went to eat at our towns lil country store and two of the cooks loved her poncho!!! i got an order for three ponchos for $15.00 a piece!!! I am soooo excited!! Name: Michele Subject: picking up the past Comment: When I was 11 yrs old (many years ago) a wonderful neighbor taught me to crochet. Years later (32yrs old) with the arrival of my first child I picked up crocheting again. As again the years slipped by 2005 I was diagnosis with breast cancer, to occupy my mind threw long hours of chemotherapy and 2 more surgeries that followed I again returned to my crocheting days. It was the best therapy not to mention with each stitch a part of me was living on. Three years cancer free my gifts of crochet projects are still in demand. And it all started with a elderly German lady with a big heart and a lot of patients who now lives on threw me. There is so much of you put into every project. There is no generation gap with crocheting as it has been around for many years. I always say its like riding a bike you never forget how. Thank you for a wonderful site as it has been a home for many of my gifts. Name: Grace Subject: thank you! Comment: Especially on this page, I noticed, there are a lot of young people in crochet! This is great! I never would have believed there were as many people interested--sometimes it seems so second place to knitting. This site is a big help, since I can find only about five books on crochet in my local library. Thank you so much! PS: I am fifteen and I have been crocheting since I was ten. Name: Linda B Subject: Wedding Dress Comment: When my daughter was about 15 years old, I made the brave statement that one day I would crochet her wedding dress. Thinking that since I have crocheted for many years, thanks to my mom and her mom (Gramma B), that by the time my daughter was ready to get married, she would forget that statement. No such luck!! It took me 9 months and several ripping outs but I made it and she was the most beautiful bride. I found a pattern in one of the many crochet magazines that I pick up and I used that for the top of the gown...was just a simple shell stitch. I then used a pineapple pattern from a Christening gown pattern for the skirt portion. I made it in two layers so that the weight of it was not all on her shoulders. The beauty of that was it allowed her to remove the bottom "skirt" for the reception. My mom told me when I was finished with the dress/gown that I should have written the pattern down as I made it. Didn't do that! Don't mind that I didn't because it makes that gown so unique and only she has this one in all the world!! But loved making it for her and it truly was a special gown for my only daughter. Thanks for this web site as I have gotten several other patterns from it and love each and every one of them. Name: Holly Subject: Don't give up! :) Comment: I just want to tell new crocheter's: Don't be afraid of new stitches when looking at patterns. When I first started I skipped a lot of patterns because the names of the stitches were so overwhelming. Then I found a site that explained how to do all those different stitches. Most of them were just a combination of stitches I already knew! SO...take a breath, find out how to do the stitch then, decide if it's to much for you just yet. Be sure to remember it because soon enough it will be a piece of cake! Name: Deb Subject: CROCHETING WITH BEADS Comment: I've been crocheting for 30 years and always was afraid to crochet anything with beads. My great aunt made lovely beaded necklaces but I always thought I was too much of a klutz to handle a hook, thread and beads too. But one day I saw a video on You Tube where a lady made a beaded necklace and the idea clicked that I could do that too. And I have made 10 necklaces by crocheting thin wire and also using metallic gold and silver elastic thread and beads. They are lovely and I've had so many compliments on them. I am going to make sets of necklaces, bracelets and earrings for Christmas for the ladies I work with. Just goes to show you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Deb Name: Alison - from Birmingham UK Subject: Black pumpkin shrug Comment: Hello to all in Crochet land. I am more of a knitter, but I love this website. I am nearly finished a black shrug made from the Pumpkin Shrug pattern. I needed something made quickly to keep the chill off my shoulders in my FREEZING (air-conditioned) office. Crochet appealed to me because it is quick, and I am a slow knitter. I have nearly completed the shrug and I am now turning it into a 'shracket' by adding a collar and sleeves. Once finished I shall trim with a row of a fuzzy black eyelash yarn. I have made the shrug from odd balls of black DK knit from my stash. So far I am pleased with the result, and it has not cost me anything. This is an ideal project for a near-beginner. Name: kelsey Subject: crochet! Comment: i love this website. my nana taught me to crochet but we didn't have the money for the supplies i need to make things i had forgetten. this sight has so many patterns that now i can afford to crochet. oalo on youtube twj1963 has some great tutorial videos for almost everything, including how to read patterns. now i crochet like crazy! Name: Debbie Subject: keep up the good work Comment: I have to say that I am very pleased to see that so many young girls are picking up their hooks and yarn. I started crocheting when I was 14 and loved it from the start (I am now 37) It is very relaxing and you can make some great things too. I started out making blankets - then moved on to doll outfits - now I am making childrens and adult clothing. You can do anything if you put your mind to it and be patient with yourself. Keep it up and have fun. And THANK YOU for this site - it is great!
