I've made myself a lovely scarf, then set out to make some slippers, followed the pattern to the letter, and came out with a tiny little elf-slipper - oops, it was supposed to be man-sized! So I tried another pattern, followed it to the letter, and came out with - you guessed it, another tiny little elf-slipper! I then discovered I used the wrong hook on the first slipper, still don't know what I did wrong on the second one, my sole consolation (no pun intended) is that they look like slippers, even though they don't fit anyone! So now I'm making a dish cloth. Started off well, but then something went wrong with my double-crochet and wound up with a flower - what a lovely mistake!! Went back and found where I went wrong, and now it's going well. I can't believe all these set-backs haven't discouraged me - I think the key is that I know the end result will be something useful, which makes it all worthwhile! Thanks for this great site, I've found lots of easy patterns for beginners! Name: Stacey Postus Subject: Zen and the Art of Crocheting Comment: Hey, if someone can find the zen in motorcycle repair, why not crocheting? Really though, crocheting is a great way to clear your mind. You just sit down, take your yarn and hook, and let your hands do the work. Once I get into my "groove", I find that I'm not even thinking about my work... I'm just relaxed! Being a new mom, it is a good way to de-stress when the baby is finally down for a nap. =) Name: Kayleigh Subject: free therapy Comment: I think that crocheting is one of the best things that I have ever learned from my grandma, and it is just as relaxing as any theraputic spa could ever be, and you're never to young to start, I'm 15 and have been crocheting for about 3 years, i like knitting too, but it makes me nervous Name: Donna Subject: crocheting. love it! Comment: After years of trying to teach me to knit, when I was 9 my mum finally gave up and taught me to crochet. I picked it up strait away, i'm 31 now and haven’t stopped since! When I was 10 and in the girl guides we all had to knit something for the n.i.c.u. Ward. I asked if I could crochet instead and all the other girls thought I was really clever, I tried explaining that crochet was easier than knitting but they didn’t listen, it didn’t help that in the time we had I did a complete set (coat, booties, hat and mittens) when most only managed a coat! So if anyone out there is having problems knitting, throw out the needles and pick up a hook! I only recently found this site and love it! My Mum loves elephants and as a thank you to her I have just started doing the stuffed elephant I found on here. So keep up the good work and I look forward to finding many more years of enjoyment from the patterns on this site. Name: Deborah Subject: I love crochet so much I'm obsessed with it Comment: Hi, I love to crochet!! My favorite thing to make is mice. My grandmother taught me when I was young, but I just didn't have it in me, unfortily she died but now I'm nuts about crocheting. My favorite places to do it is on the taxicab and at school ( and even work!!) I love the granny squares they look like flowers almost. I resently made a blanket with 183 crochet mice on it!!! You'd think that I would take a break after that, not me I have ( in a bag) about 100 (at least) crochet mice and granny squares etc, I love crochet so much I cant stand it!!! I even made a scarf ( that I wear just about every day!!) As I type this I'm looking at it.( I wore it to school today. Ok, Ill end here I'm not sure how much more this letter will hold. Name: Pat Rogan Subject: Crocheting Comment: My mother taught me to crochet when I was very young - she was a teacher, but not a great crocheter. Anyway, I have crocheted eversince, and hope you do too. Name: Debra Subject: LOVE TO CROCHET Comment: Ive been crocheting since I was a teenager. And its fun and makes great gifts. Name: Hannah Subject: crocheting Comment: I am 13 years old and i have been crocheting since i was like 7 or 8. I love to do it in any spare time i have.Somedays i even take my crochet to school and do it at lunch. I've taught my sisters and helped them with any problems they ahve had. Now one of my friends wants me to teach her. I'm like so excited! Also, a while back i made lots of barbie clothes w/your patterns and i just wanted to say thanks! My sisters loved them. Name: Amelia Subject: Wow! Great site! Comment: Greeting from the UK! I'm assuming that this is an American site - crochet seems to be more popular over that side of the Atlantic then it does here - it's really difficult to find crochet patterns in the UK, so to find such a huge selection of free patterns on the 'net is fantastic! I'm 24 now and have been crocheting on and off since my late grandmother first taught me how to crochet in the round many years ago. I'm currently in the middle of making a poncho (my own pattern, but greatly inspired by the ones on this site) and a hat (using a pattern on this site. I'm going to accessorise it with one of the many lovely flower patterns I've found here!)So, thanks for a great site! Happy crocheting everyone! Name: LaVina R Daracunas Subject: crocheting Comment: I have been crocheting since I was a toddler. My mom taught me; and, I also had help from her big red crochet book which was published in 1942. My first items were tiny cups and saucers that would have been suitable for tiny dolls. I gave then to my grandmother who displayed them on her upright player piano. I have been crocheting for more than 50 years. I can remember an extra credit home ec project: I made a baby layette set out of pink baby yarn. Guess what sex my first child was? yep, a girl; which was about 6 years later. I also knit. I have enjoyed reading the other's experiences on this site. I recently tried making miniature doilies out of sewing thread with a size 14 hook: the doilies measure about 2" across. I have given them as secret sister gifts at our secret sister group at church. At the present I am spending most of my crocheting time making afghans for Project Linus. I have made over 50; and, just received a thank you note from mom for her 7 year old son: which makes it all so worth it. Thanks for a great site. I also have dozens of vintage patterns. Name: SUSAN Subject: My Sister Comment: My sister had a terrible stroke in october which left her paralized on her left side, but she loves to crochet and she trys really hard.I know in time she will accomplish whatever it is she trys to do.She will finish the afghan she started for her granddaughter because she is the type of person who never gives up.I love her very much and i know she will overcome this tragedy.Keep up the spirits sis. This keeps my mind really busy and not thinking about the future operations that I am booked for. Never get a cold, flue - u name it, but since I am a twin (the younger one - she is 1/2 hr older - lol - age 57) I seem to get the major stuff. The good Lord does look after me, so I am glad it's not my dear sister that has to be operated on. Thank you so much once again. Do take my crochet work with me at all times. Name: Roslyn Subject: nice to see the younger crocheters Comment: I am "almost" 40 now and have been crocheting again for about 6 months. My mom taught me as a young girl. Never really made anything until the poncho craze again. Well anyway, I just wanted to say that I have visited your site before and never really read the above until now and it is nice to see the kids getting involved. I have a son who is 10 and is extremely interested in it, he even forgets about playstation (YEAH!). He loves to make scarves, they were great for him to learn. He is now working on a "fur" scarf for his aunt. I now have his twin brother showing an interest now as well, we're still in the beginning stages, but I really love it. Dad has them for sports and I have them with the crochet. I get a kick out of it and now my neighbors girls want to learn and call me with questions or will pop over for a quick lesson. I love it. Thanks for your time. Name: Rebecca Subject: Crochet Ponchos Comment: Thanks to your website I was able to find free patterns for ponchos I made for Christmas gifts to my friends and family. I made over a dozen ponchos, scarves, and shawls. Everyone was so pleased they placed orders for more!!!
