Comment: i think i made up a new stitch!! i named it "twister". it looks like a little tornado. i made a foundation row, chain 3 & turn, dc in 2nd st, skp 1 st, 1dc in next st, yo & take hook around (from frnt to back) the dc you just made, pick up yarn from behind & bring it up even with the same dc, do this 2 times leaving yarn on the hook. now ch1 to connect all together at the top. done! skip 2 sts and dc as many times as you want between "twister" sts. i hope this is clear. i was trying to do the bean st when i accidentally made a twister. i had to look up the bean st again to do it right. thanks for reading my comment!

Comment: I just learned how to crochet in November 2008 using this site while stressed out about college finals. I'm so glad I did too. I've been making hats, gloves, mittens, vests, tops and scarves ever since. As a student, I especially can't afford to buy a lot of the pretty sweaters I see in stores, but now I've discovered the fun in making them. All my friends want me to teach them. This site is bookmarked on my computer, I love it, thank you so much!

Comment: I am a 57 year old wife and mom and have been crafting for 50 years. I am a "southpaw". Here is a hint for learning to knit, crochet, tat, etc. Sit in front of someone that is right handed and mirror what they do. This will work for either handed person if you want to learn.

Comment: I enjoy crocheting but often have no place for my crafts once they are done. My solution is to get yarn that has been donated to my church, use it to make hats, mittens and scarves all year long, then donate the finished product back to the church for their Christmas charity drive.

I get to have fun crocheting and helping others, without the expense of yarn or accumulation of crafts I don't know what to do with.

Comment: I am 53 yeas old and have been crocheting since I was 18 up until about 8 years ago I was crocheting on and off well I was in an accident and was in the hospital for 3 1/2 months and I was happy I had my yarn and hook to keep me company. What I have to say is don't ever give up and if you want to learn you will

Comment: When i was pregnant with my son, i wanted to make him a little blanket, i bought a magazine, some yarn and a hook. I did not know how to, and couldnt find anyone to teach me. So i was very upset. Now, he is five years old, and i finally learn how to crochet, so i took that old magazine and crocheted him that blanket for his bed, and i been working and lots of projects, so my advice is never give up.

Comment: I am 52 years old and have enjoyed the art of crochet since I was 7. I started crocheting around pillow cases and do just about everything now. I would like to encourage all crocheters like me who have received so much joy in it to give back and find a local and deserving charity in your area and make items for them. I have just started this spring to make hats and scarves for the local homeless shelter and hope to have enough of them by cold weather to benefit a lot of people. So please if you can, give back. It "FEELS SO GOOD".

Comment: Several years ago, my mom made a blanket for a friend of hers who was adopting a little girl from Russia. My dad asked her if she could make another one, and she said no, she barely had the time to make one. So I offered to make one for him; he wanted to give it to a co-worker of his who's 2 1/2 year old daughter had just been diagnosed with leukemia. And this started a tradition. Every year, my family looks for someone we know, friend, co-worker, client, with a baby or toddler who might need some extra love over the Christmas season and present them with a "Christmas blanket" made by me. The happiness that it brings these families makes me want to do it again and again. I just thought that others out there like me would enjoy the story of the crocheted Christmas blanket.

Comment: I'm almost 21 and this past summer I made an afghan as a birthday present for my boyfriend in which I (literally) put blood, sweat and tears into. The result was him being flabbergasted by what I had done for him, his sister threatening to steal it, and his mom asking if he really deserved to have a girlfriend as good as myself. I love how gifts can make someone's day brighter! And it's nice to know that I'm not alone in my love of the yarn and hook!
