Comment: I've been crocheting for awhile now and it's been great for making scarves and ponchos for my family. BTW i'm only 14!

Subject: crocheting for years
Comment: I love that I can crochet. I started when I was 9 and now I am 23. I have made so many different projects, most have turned out wonderfully! I love making scarfs and blankets for friends and family and they like getting them as gifts. It's wonderful.

Comment: I've been crocheting since I was 12 and I'm now 24. As a college student with only my husband's income, I can say that this 'hobby' of mine has actually generated income for me! I crochet hats, scarves, and baby afghans to sell! There's nothing better than getting paid to do what you love!

Comment: At 5 years old, a great aunt of mine taught me how to knit. I'm now 25 and recently, a family friend of mine who's 19 asked me if I knew how to knit, because she wanted to learn how to do it. I picked up the needles and oddly enough, I remembered. It's like riding a bike! But knitting intimidates me, so I can only do a purl stitch, in a scarf form. :) So anyway, I showed this girl how to knit. She asked me if I wanted to learn how to crochet. She showed me a double, which she said was more complicated than a single. I made a little sample patch, then went online and started looking up all the stitches necessary to make fun things. Crocheting is awesome, and very fun. It's still hard to believe I can remember knitting 20 years later. And it's pretty cool I could teach it to someone, and have them teach me how to crochet in return.

You know what is great? That people "my age" (20 year olds) are crocheting. Honestly, crocheting is typically associated with older women... a bad sterotype! It's nice to see young people crocheting!

Comment: Hi want to thank all who supply patterns on this wonderful website. The baby cape and hood pattern I am finishing now is wonderful. Thede items go to a hospital for needy children. I thank God my fingers can still work well enough to do such a service.

Comment: I learned basic stitches (all of 3) at the age of 12. I crocheted on and off during my teenage years. Then 10 years ago, I bought some yarn and made a granny square. One thing lead to another and a friend taught me how to do ripple and shell patterns. I never looked back. I have always made baby afghans for showers and for friends and families. Then one day I made 8 lapghans and donated them to a nursing home. I've made scarfs for children in shelters last Christmas. I was looking around on websites and found raincircle, who was making squares and afghans for Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims. I got involved with them and it is so rewarding to be able to help people who are really in need. I hope to teach my 4 year granddaughter soon so I can leave my legacy. Some family members want me to sell my work, but I have a job; I just do this for fun. New crocheters/knitters be encouraged! Once you learn, it'll stay with you forever. Please keep the needy in mind.

Comment: I'm 21 and I don't crochet a whole lot but my mom taught me a little so I do some occasionally. I usually make slave bracelets with chains (the metal kind) and chainmaille, but I just decided to try some more crocheted ones (which I've made a couple times before) so I came to this site for patterns. To the homeschooled Hannas: Hey! I was homeschooled too! very kul. To Christina: I also had a problem fitting in and being "cool" (even though I was homeschooled, I also went to a part-time private school), and I learned not to care what people think and just be myself, with the help of some real friends. Now people think I'm "cool" even though I don't actually try to be, go figure. Apperently in middle school it's "cool" to be like everyone else, but in high school and college (at least my high school, also technically home school but much better than the previous part-time school), if you don't care what people think and be yourself then you'll be "cool". Ironic. So good for you for coming out of the closet. But anyway, yeah I like to crochet sometimes but I don't know much, I should probably get that Wal-Mart book too.

Comment: I learned to make chains when I was very small. My mother used to set me on the floor with a yarn ball and give me a big hook. I would set and make chains while my mother would make beautiful crocheted items for friends and family. She would hang them on the Christmas tree and give them to friends to do the same. Years later she showed me how to make granny squares, and she would sew them togeather for the needy. Mom has been gone now for three years, and I miss her very much, but every time I pick up a new project I think of her and am so glad for the time she shared with me!

Comment: Crocheting is one of those things I thought I'd learn "one of these days." Then someone gave me a hand crocheted dishrag (of all things) and I love it. So I went out and purchased yarn, hook and a simple instruction book and am working on my first dishrag. I selected the dishrag because it is a very quick project and how hard could a dishrag be?? I am (pardon the pun) hooked! I am a very high stress person anyway and this is very therapeutic. When I start I find I do not want to stop! Wish I had tried this years ago!

Comment: Hi!! smiles and prayers to all. I am glad to find this site! I just got started again crochetin. I used to dabble in it when i worked as an in home nurse on long nights, etc. I lacked self-confidence then about reading patterns. Now I have started, again hookin! I love it.

Comment: Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one who feels she is addicted to crocheting...my day doesn't feel complete unless I've worked on my current afghan. Thanks for a great site!

Comment: My husband's grandmother taught me how to crochet. I don't know if it was harder for me to learn or her to teach it but I got it. Now I can't go to a craft store without buying yarn. I can't go online without finding projects I want to make. I have used about a ream of paper printing patterns. I enjoy making scarves and hats to match. I have made some fridgies and some flowers of all sizes. I take a project to work everyday. When riding in the car I have a project. I have taught a few friends who wanted to learn and they are going to town with it too. I am enjoying my addiction/passion.
