Name: Ann Wren Subject: Patterns Comment: Hi want to thank all who supply patterns on this wonderful website. The baby cape and hood pattern I am finishing now is wonderful. Thede items go to a hospital for needy children. I thank God my fingers can still work well enough to do such a service. Name: Millie Subject: Crocheting is Rewarding Comment: I learned basic stitches (all of 3) at the age of 12. I crocheted on and off during my teenage years. Then 10 years ago, I bought some yarn and made a granny square. One thing lead to another and a friend taught me how to do ripple and shell patterns. I never looked back. I have always made baby afghans for showers and for friends and families. Then one day I made 8 lapghans and donated them to a nursing home. I've made scarfs for children in shelters last Christmas. I was looking around on websites and found raincircle, who was making squares and afghans for Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims. I got involved with them and it is so rewarding to be able to help people who are really in need. I hope to teach my 4 year granddaughter soon so I can leave my legacy. Some family members want me to sell my work, but I have a job; I just do this for fun. New crocheters/knitters be encouraged! Once you learn, it'll stay with you forever. Please keep the needy in mind. One Stitch Wonders by Millie Name: Laura Subject: now and then Comment: I'm 21 and I don't crochet a whole lot but my mom taught me a little so I do some occasionally. I usually make slave bracelets with chains (the metal kind) and chainmaille, but I just decided to try some more crocheted ones (which I've made a couple times before) so I came to this site for patterns. To the homeschooled Hannas: Hey! I was homeschooled too! very kul. To Christina: I also had a problem fitting in and being "cool" (even though I was homeschooled, I also went to a part-time private school), and I learned not to care what people think and just be myself, with the help of some real friends. Now people think I'm "cool" even though I don't actually try to be, go figure. Apperently in middle school it's "cool" to be like everyone else, but in high school and college (at least my high school, also technically home school but much better than the previous part-time school), if you don't care what people think and be yourself then you'll be "cool". Ironic. So good for you for coming out of the closet. But anyway, yeah I like to crochet sometimes but I don't know much, I should probably get that Wal-Mart book too. Name: Mrs. Marion Ridley Subject: A link to the past. Comment: I learned to make chains when I was very small. My mother used to set me on the floor with a yarn ball and give me a big hook. I would set and make chains while my mother would make beautiful crocheted items for friends and family. She would hang them on the Christmas tree and give them to friends to do the same. Years later she showed me how to make granny squares, and she would sew them togeather for the needy. Mom has been gone now for three years, and I miss her very much, but every time I pick up a new project I think of her and am so glad for the time she shared with me! Name: Carol Subject: Beginner Comment: Crocheting is one of those things I thought I'd learn "one of these days." Then someone gave me a hand crocheted dishrag (of all things) and I love it. So I went out and purchased yarn, hook and a simple instruction book and am working on my first dishrag. I selected the dishrag because it is a very quick project and how hard could a dishrag be?? I am (pardon the pun) hooked! I am a very high stress person anyway and this is very therapeutic. When I start I find I do not want to stop! Wish I had tried this years ago! Name: Mary Beth Subject: I am re- hooked Comment: Hi!! smiles and prayers to all. I am glad to find this site! I just got started again crochetin. I used to dabble in it when i worked as an in home nurse on long nights, etc. I lacked self-confidence then about reading patterns. Now I have started, again hookin! I love it. Name: Rose Subject: addiction Comment: Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one who feels she is addicted to crocheting...my day doesn't feel complete unless I've worked on my current afghan. Thanks for a great site! Name: Tawnda Subject: Just Can't Stop! Comment: i, too, like many others, learned to crochet when i was very young. my mother taught me and i recently learned that she was self-taught! this is a wonderful website, and i love the art of crocheting! I will share it with my daughter as soon as she can hold the hook! thanks! Name: Donna Subject: my passion Comment: My husband's grandmother taught me how to crochet. I don't know if it was harder for me to learn or her to teach it but I got it. Now I can't go to a craft store without buying yarn. I can't go online without finding projects I want to make. I have used about a ream of paper printing patterns. I enjoy making scarves and hats to match. I have made some fridgies and some flowers of all sizes. I take a project to work everyday. When riding in the car I have a project. I have taught a few friends who wanted to learn and they are going to town with it too. I am enjoying my addiction/passion. Name: Carol Subject: Can't stop crocheting Comment: Hi all!! I love to crochet. I was taught by the lady who was my babysitter when I was a baby. I now make all kinds of things and have started my own business "A Stitch and A Prayer". I am trying to teach my niece how to crochet and my daughter. Carol Name: Hannah Subject: COOL! Comment: Hi. My name is hannah and I am 12 and am homeschooled. I LOVE to crochet while my mom reads history to me or something. crochetin is great. I have made SOOOO many presents for people. this site has really helped me find patterns. Thanks and God Bless whoever reads this! Hannah PS. Hi to the other homeshcooled Hannah. It's cool we have the same "cool stuff" about us! Name: Lisa Subject: crocheting Comment: I was searching for a hat pattern and found this site, Thanks so much for all the wonderfull patterns. I've been crocheting since I was a child, my mom showed me a simple chain just using my fingers then years later I slowly taught myself how to read patterns and asked my mom for help when I got stuck. I've made afghans, hats, doilies, baby items, snowflakes, angels...you name it!! I've given them mostly as gifts and always they are appreciated. These days it's unusual for someone to take the time and effort to make something, it's so easy to go and buy it ready made, I think everyone appreciates something made by you!! To all those beginning crocheters, keep trying, this is something that will stay wih you for your whole life!!! Happy crocheting!!! Lisa Name: Susan Subject: Love crochet! Comment: I learned to crochet when I was young from my aunt. She got me started, then when I wanted to learn some new stitches, gave me a magazine with all of the stitches in the back, telling me that I didn't need her, I could figure it out myself. That was all the boost I needed! Been hooking ever since, thanks to her. Now as an adult, I remember her words and know that there won't be anything too difficult for me to tackle. My aunt has been gone for several years, but her legacy to me lives on in hours of wonderful, creative, stress-relieving crochet! Name: tayo Subject: crochet Comment: Actually, i'm a nigerian 13 year old boy, but i love crochet seriously. Recently we had a club display stuff in school, and i had to go in front of all the students crocheting. People call me all sorts of names (g*y) and so on, but i'm TOO ADDICTED to let all that stop me. I've recently been into a lot of mufflers, and they sell very well, though i'm still trying to get the hang of reading patterns. CROCHET IS WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NEVER FORGET THE PERSON WHO TAUGHT YOU TO CROCHET (I WAS TAUGHT BY MY HOUSEMAID). GET SOMEONE HOOKED TODAY!!! Name: Karen Subject: crochet Comment: I just recently learned to crochet. I taught myself because I loved one of the clover edgings. It turned out to be so easy, now I'm not afraid to tackle any project. Once I got a hard to do project under my belt I had confidence to do anything. I just wish I picked up this wonderful craft 20 years ago.
