Name: Melissa Dais Subject: Therapy of Crocheting Comment: I do a lot of crocheting and use it as a therapy while in the hospital or during a very trying period with my health. I only do fine crocheting, except for the occasional stuffed toy and one dress that I thought was gorgeous for a pharmacy technician's new baby girl. As you can probably tell I spend a tremendous amount of time at the hospital and would go crazy without my crocheting, knitting, tatting and cro-tatting of doilies to keep my sanity and spirits up. I taught myself all methods of producing doilies, tablecloths and other pieces as no one else I know can do any of these crafts. I have been approached by nurses to sell my items at craft shows for me and I am considering adding that to my distribution of my work. My words are "don't let anyone talk you out of doing your craft or hobby" regardless of what it is. Melissa Name: dolores pittman Subject: keep on crocheting Comment: I did not know anyone to help me learn to crochet. Sooo I made many BOO!!bOO!But I was determined to get the hang of it. I am glad I did. (I think I have been crocheting since around my late 30's and I am in my middle 70;s now.) I re=married and thru my husband I have many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being on Social Security does not give you loads of money to buy gifts for them. Now that I crochet I have gifts that they all enjoy. I make ponchos. (easy to put on the babies)toys that are so cuddly and the babies can play with them for they are so soft. So if you want an enjoyable hobby this is it. Name: Jayne Egan Subject: crochet nut Comment: I taught myself to crochet at the age of 8 with a ball of string and have not stopped since. My wubbys as my blankets are known are owned by all my family and friends and are taken wherever in the world the owners land in.I make clothes for a premmie charity which gives me great joy and satisfaction.the latest addiction is dressing dolls and constantly look for patterns for inspiration i say but simply because i crave patterns.I live to crochet and love to crochet Name: Tina Subject: 30 years and counting! Comment: I began crocheting when I was 8,amazing,30years ago. I am not an expert,.but ppl say so. I crochet shirts, just started crocheting bikinis for my daughter, and made crocheted g-string panties for myself. It was easy,i got a pair of panties from wal-mart,crocheted the crotch part and added the elastic.I sometimes crochet over the elastic, sometimes not.I love it! I knit, too, but prefer to crochet. My kids save all I have made, what for,I don't know.I put charms on the bikini tops, and my daughter, and her friends love them! I have not sold any work, because I don't feel that confident.I love yarn, and love the feeling I get when starting a new pattern.I stockpile patterns/yarn for projects to keep me busy,as I am a stay at home mom of 3 Name: Lynn Subject: The Beginning Comment: When I was a very young girl, my maternal grandmother used to crochet all the time. She made doilies, arm chair covers and covers for the back of the chairs and couch. When I was about 6, she made me lie on the floor on top of old newpaper and she traced me. Little did I know that she was going to create a crocheted dress for me. Not only did she create a beautiful dress, but she made colored satin underslips for it, too. I didn't start to crochet until I was about 10, and I picked it up from watching my grandmother. I even taught myself how to read patterns. Forty some years later, I am still crocheting doilies, ponchos, baby blankets, etc. and loving it. Crocheting is a wonderful hobby and I find that most people prefer hand made items than those bought in a store. I love your sight and have made some of your patterns. This is the best site I've seen. Name: Jeannine Subject: Long Time Crocheter Comment: I have been crocheting for 25 years now and still at it. I have made many things for myself, my home, gifts, Even do it for money. Yes I also sell my items. People would see what I am doing and the next thing I know they are paying for one. I remember when I was about 10 years old and was told by my mom I would never be able to learn crocheting because I am LEFT handed. I crochet left handed. Well, I was inspired to prove my mom wrong. And over the years she wanted me to make things for her, since I am a much better crocheter then her. I just finished making her a blanket with pillow shams to match. Took about a month, but I made it. Now at this time I am going for lessons to be a certified crochet instructor. Since I also teach. But having a certificate would make me feel more proud. Lefties don't be left out!!! Happy Crocheting!! Name: denise Subject: i love yarn Comment: I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 7 and I love it. My brother calls me a yarn freak but I can't help it it is so much fun. I'm always buying yarn and looking for patterns. If I see yarn on sale I can't help myself I just buy it. One day I want to start my own business of the different stuff I have made. Name: Amanda Subject: 'Modern' Crochet Comment: I learnt to chrochet when I was young, but thought that it was just for nanas. Now I know better. I am working on a scarf combining crochet, applique and embroidery with art noveau style designs. If you google "Marcel Wanders Crochet" you will see a crochet table, Chanel has a crochet handbag, and Marc Jacobs has beautiful crochet shoes. Name: la-la Subject: the love of crochet Comment: I am 11 i learned to crochet when i was 7. I love it sooo much. in my school there is a thing during lunch when kids can go to the art room and knit. I have no clue but everyone knits! that is lame crochet is way easier! Name: Jenny Subject: Beyond obsession! Comment: Hi all! I am 26 and I learned to crochet 3 or 4 years ago from a family friend. I was really discouraged at first because my sister picked it up quickly and I struggled. But now I'm the avid crocheter and she's not really that into it. She teases me and tells me I have a problem due to what seems like 5 billion tons of yarn all over my room and crochet patterns printed from the internet, mostly from this site, from here to eternity. It is beyond obsession, I agree, but I can't help it! It's fun and relaxing and I love making things for others and seeing how happy they are when I've made something for them. Also, I can't wait to have a daughter to teach so we can share it together! Have fun! I do. Name: annaliesa Subject: needing to stay busy Comment: Two years ago, my 23 year old son joined the Marines. I used a children's book to teach my left-handed self to crochet. Throughput boot camp, a deployment to Japan and this year a deployment to Iraq, I crocheted. My daughter is a college student, living in a dorm and I crocheted lap afghans for anyone who asked. I went onto to scarves and baby blankets. This year with the deployment to Iraq, I upped the ante to a mega blanket project. My daughter can now keep half the dorm warm and my nerves are steadier-all thanks to crocheting. Thanks, Annaliesa Meeks Name: Amanda Subject: Good way to relax Comment: I learned to crochet when I was six (my older sister is a wonderful needlewoman and I learned from her) and have tinkered with it on and off for years. I took it up again seriously a few years ago as a way to relax after a long day at work and school. Recently I've been working on crochet garments from sewing patterns (this allows me to vary stitches and yarns without straining my brain on conversions, and it's guaranteed to fit so long as I crochet to the exact size of the pattern pieces.) The only bad thing about it is that, even exercising restraint, my yarn stash seems to be creeping into the living room. Does anyone else's husband have apoplexy whenever he finds a new ball of yarn? :) Name: Jennifer Subject: Addicting! Comment: I learned how to crochet only four months ago, and I'm hooked! Growing up, my Nana was always crocheting and knitting, and she is my teacher and my inspiration. I learned how to knit years ago, and while my Nana showed me over and over how to crochet, it never made sense to me. Well, one night I had just finished knitting a scarf, and I thought I'd try crocheting again. I looked at the directions for the millionth time, and somehow they made sense! I've been crocheting ever since. I crochet while watching TV, on the bus, during staff meetings, anywhere! This website offers many great patterns and I get a lot of inspiration from looking at all the different things people have made. Now I'm about to open my own online store where I sell my hand-designed, handmade crocheted hats. Crocheting is so much fun! Name: Mary Subject: Crochet Comment: I was always excited each year at Christmas because I knew my Grandmother would give me one of her crochet works of art. She was the one who inspired me to crochet. I learned from her and some of my work friends during our breaks.I will never forget the crocheted collars that Grandmother made that were popular in the "50's. Now as a mother and grandmother, I have 3 children, 11 grandchildren and have made all of them an afghan for their birthdays. It took me a year to do it but it was so much fun and so relaxing. Thank goodness, their birthdays are spread thoughout the year. The enjoyment you get when you give your handiwork away can only be expressed when you see the gratefulness in their eyes. My crochet bag goes with me everywhere. Thank you for this website. It is great! I am still exploring. Name: Theresa D Subject: Crocheting Comment: I made rent money while in collge crocheting fraternity hats and scarves. People love personal items. Some of you collge students have a gold mine.
