Name: Vaughn Subject: love it Comment: i am a teenager and have been crocheting for about four years. i just made the baby triceratops for my brother in less than 24 hours. i love your site. being a teenager in these times is very stressful but crochet helps me cope. i am planning to make all my christmas presents this year by crochet, no small feat because i have a huge family! well thank you and God bless. Vaughn Name: Nicole Subject: Lifesaving Comment: I used to smoke 30 cigarettes a day, and had done for quarter of a century. I gave up a few months ago and it was probably the hardest thing I ever did. During a particularly low period in the first couple of days, I got in my car and ended up at the craft shop. I have knitted and crocheted on and off for years, but not recently - it suddenly seemed a very good time to reacquaint myself with the hobby. I stocked up on some gorgeous wool and needles and hooks of varying sizes, and haven't looked back since. For its therapeutic qualities and the fact that it involves your mind and your hands, I can honestly say it has helped save my life by getting me over my nicotine addiction. Name: Pam Subject: crocheting again Comment: I fell and broke my ankle several months ago and was pretty much confined to my bed for several months. I was going stir crazy until my friend offered to bring me some yarn and a crochet needle. My mother had taught me to crochet as a child. I searched the internet and found some beautiful free patterns and began crocheting again after a lapse of several years. I rediscovered how much fun it was. I have made several beautiful afghans this year and plan to give them as gifts. I believe crocheting played a big part in my recovery, helping to take my mind off my broken ankle. Thanks, Cindy, for hooking me up with crochet again. Download this as a file Name: Pamela Weaver Subject: Crochet Comment: I began crocheting back in 2001. My mom was in the nursing home and I wanted to make something for her to have there. So a dear friend of mine, Terry W, taught me how to crochet as she had a crochet project at the time. Of course, according to her, I picked something that a beginner shouldn't pick. It had a stitch or two that someone crocheting for awhile would know how to work. With her help I picked it up quickly and made what I wanted to give my mother. From there I have been crocheting several different pieces. Now I want you to know that I was not young when I started - 57 years old. So if you have a yearn to crochet don't think that you can't do it because of your age. I love crocheting. Have made some baby blankets to give to some precious babies. Enjoyed giving them to their mommas. I now crochet for relief from eveyday stressors. Since I am a full-time student, full-time mom, plus full-time teacher (I home-school my two younger children), well I have a few stressors in my life. Crocheting does play second fidle more often these days, but I find it a great comfort when the day has proven too full. Thank you, to all who have submitted patterns to this web site. Sincerely, Michelle Y. Thomas Name: Anne Subject: Gifts for Charity Comment: Hi! I'm 63 and have been crocheting since I was in my twenties. Recently, my brother was diagnosed with throat cancer and I accompanied him to his treatments. I found out that the cancer center gives gift baskets to its families at Christmas, so I made a big afghan in a popcorn pattern. The social worker really loved it but she called me later and said, "Do you know what one of our workers said when she saw your afghan? She said, 'Do you know how many HOURS it takes to make those popcorns? About a million!!'" I thought it was funny, but it was nice to have someone appreciate the time it takes to make something. I agree with your visitors who say that crocheting is good therapy. I certainly agree! Name: Rebecca Subject: Patterns Comment: Hi!!! I think this is a wonderful site and I can't stay off it!!! I made a stuffed horse from here yesterday: he's cute too!! I love all the free patterns!! Awesome! Crochet ain't just for old folks; young 'uns can love it too!!! Rebecca Name: Gracie Subject: Crocheting for dolls Comment: I am 12 years old and I love crocheting. I have two American Girl dolls and I love buying clothes for them, but after awhile I decided that the clothes were too expensive, and I started making my own. I now have a business for my doll clothes, and I have written many patterns for them. And I know this site helped me a lot. Thank you so much! God bless! Name: Malissa Evans Subject: My mother's favorite afgan Comment: When I first began crocheting, I bought countless number of books with patterns and designs. My Mother liked to look through them with me as I brought them to her house to show what I was working on. There was one particular afgan my Mother fell in love with. It was an extremely complex pattern with over 7 different stitches in it and included even cross stitched lettering around the border which spelled out "Roses are red, Violets are blue. Sugar is sweet, and so are you". Seeing as how Mom really loved it, I set my mind to creating the blanket for her for the following christmas. I did not count on just how complex the stitches and pattern was though and it took me 8 months to complete. I gave it to her on Mother's Day instead of Christmas. The look of surprise, love and adoration was worth every sore finger and long night I had gone through. Last year, Mom was diagnoised with lung cancer. Every day she was in the hospital and every time she went in for treatments, Mom took the afgan I made with her. She said that it was warmer than any other blanket she was offered. Nurses, doctors and visitors alike "oohhed and awwed" over it. Mom said it took her mind off her pain and the treatments to show my afgan off and point out the stitches and work that went into the making of it. I was just glad to see how happy it made Mom. My Mom died last month and as we went through her things, my daughters and I found the afgan. Tears welled in my eyes as I caught my Mother's scent and my children talked of "Mammow's blankie" and how much she loved it. I brought it home and have sealed it into a protective bag. On the long nights when I miss my Mother the most, I bring it out, snuggle beneath it and breath in my Mother's scent which still clings to the yarn. One day I will pass the afgan along to my oldest daughter who will treasure it as much as Mom and I have. Crochet is not just a hobby or a way of passing away time. It can be an art that can create heirlooms and priceless treasures. Name: April Subject: crochet Comment: I love to crochet. Even though I am only 13 years old, I have made a felted hat, a bag, a scarf, and a skull cap in the time when I am not in school and don't have to worry about homework. I love your site because I can go here whenever I want to make something without worrying about going to the bookstore and finding the right pattern. I really wanted to thank you for the site and everything you put on it. :) Name: Dan Subject: a male crocheter! Comment: I love to crochet. I made 2 blankets for 2 friends having babies! I am turning 25 this week and have been crocheting for a bout a year. "crocheting school" is an awesome book with great stiches to be learned! Name: jeanette Subject: teacher Comment: Well, my home ec teacher at the pregnancy school taught me to crochet. Its the funniest thing i wanted to make a layette set and she gave me this yarn and told me how to stitch the hat. Well this hat turned out bigger than my head. I went to her and said hey i followed the pattern just like you told me what happened. She said oh my i forgot its the wrong yarn for babies. i was upset but now i laugh about it 27 years later and many other mistakes made. hope you enjoy. Name: Carolyn Subject: Thank You Comment: I have been using this site for the last few years. Mostly, I enjoy looking but have tried a few of the doll crochet items. I learned to crochet when I was 5 or 6 years old from my grandmother. I think I made a chain that would go around the house. Later, I taught myself to read instructions and expand my knowledge. Name: Jasmine Jones Subject: In the Round 6 inch block Comment: Let me tell ya, TRUST YOURSELF! I can not say that enough. I just finished my very first attempt at a square. I usually crochet across in one stich, row after row after row (makes for a very sturdy blanket!) and have always dreamed of actually doing a square. So I picked the "In the Round 6 inch block" because I liked the consistency of it. I re-read and re-read the instructions about a gazillion times (more like 4) and still found myself completely overwhelmed. So I said to myself, "what the hay! If they want a dc 5x's in a row, just do it!" At first, I couldn't see it. It didn't feel right. I thought I was doing everything way too loose. But let me tell you LOOSE IS YOUR FRIEND! Needless to say, the square was an amazing success. It took a while but I did it! I just finally gave in to the directions and had trust in myself!
